International Student Exchange
ALLEF is a non-profit-making body which organises linguistic and cultural exchanges for 8 to 10 year old children. Through our programme, boys and girls of primary school age get the chance to experience life in a caring European host family and to learn French, German or English as a foreign language.
We carry out our international exchange programme with carefully selected families from Germany, France or the UK. Participants in our exchanges are exclusively boys and girls who from an early age have shown curiosity about other countries and other cultures, and have expressed an interest in a foreign exchange of their own initiative.
Within the framework of a foreign language exchange with ALLEF the children spend 6 months in a European country. They live in the family of their exchange partner and, being the same age, they attend the same school. An equal part of the exchange is also the hosting of the guest child. The goal is to completely integrate each child into their host family. Spending in effect an entire year together during the exchange, the children and their respective families often develop long lasting friendships. Our exchange programme delivers much more than the usual school language exchange or holiday for older children or teenagers.
In selecting participants we look for children and parents who are highly motivated to undertake an intensive exchange. In this way the exchange child gets to know a new and different way of life and at the same time is embedded in a loving family environment. All our exchange co-ordinators have themselves taken part in this exceptional and rewarding exchange programme and will guide you through the experience with advice and support. Because we are a not-for-profit organisation, whose members are committed to working on an entirely voluntary basis to promote cross-cultural understanding, we are able to keep our costs for arranging exchanges to very reasonable levels.
